Personal Profile

My love of science came about at young age conducting experiments with my grandfather, a well-known electrical engineer with GE. Whether it involved exploring unique opportunities, learning additional skills, or meeting new people, my grandfather taught me to strive for excellence in all endeavors. My well-rounded knowledge of biology, environmental science, and sustainability has served as a catalyst for multiple research projects such as work to mitigate water contamination from oil and gas wastewater spills. To learn more about my diverse background, keep exploring my site or reach out directly.

PhD Ecology
Colorado State University

August 2011 - May 2017

I had the opportunity to explore my personal research interests through the assistance of a personal graduate research fellowship that I was awarded from the National Science Foundation. I was interested in the increased oil and gas extraction occurring in Colorado and sought to identify mitigation strategies to reduce soil and groundwater contamination. While I spearheaded the development, funding, execution, and reporting of three projects, I utilized the advice of experts across fields as well as oversaw undergraduate assistants.

MA Cellular, Molecular, and Developmental Biology
University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill

August 2009 - December 2011

During my Master’s degree I quantified cytokinin-induced transcriptional regulation in Arabidopsis to understand the molecular basis by which cytokinin regulates plant processes, and I identified a new degradation pathway for ACC synthase, an enzyme that limits ethylene production.

BS Biology with a Botany Emphasis

September 2003 - May 2009

I conducted several research projects: (1) I assessed whether plants can flower early to avoid the drought season in California; (2) I surveyed Santa Cruz Island biodiversity and conducted an experimental trial involving the removal of Carpobrotus chilensis, an invasive plant originally introduced to the island to eradicate soil erosion; and (3) I investigated how climate change affects the ability of invasive grasses to adapt.

Lead Outreach Consultant, Lower Poudre River Flood Recovery and Resilience Master Plan

June 2017 - January 2018

I facilitated stakeholder engagement from oil and gas operators, ditch companies, local municipalities, and community members to solicit public buy-in for resilient river-construction design. I helped develop participatory mapping activities as well as design and analyze surveys to gain local-river knowledge. My outreach resulted in potential plans for future oil and gas infrastructure outside of the 100-year flood zone, fish overpasses at agricultural ditches, and river construction that is geared towards reconnecting the flood plain with the river.

Innovate Fort Collins Summit

February 2018

Very exciting to have been a part of the Innovate Fort Collins Summit. As a group, we brainstormed ideas and challenges associated with trying to fulfill Fort Collins Climate Action Plan (CAP). CAP calls for carbon neutrality by 2050, a very ambitious goal! The Summit encompassed a variety of issues; I was on the transportation team. As a group, we created the framework of issues that will be used to select grant recipient with innovative ideas aimed at meeting our CAP goals. Below is a picture of our Mayor, Wade Troxell, giving the opening ceremony speech.
